On behalf of the people of West Papua and the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) Provisional Government, I offer Jotham Napat my sincere congratulations on his election as Prime Minister of Vanuatu.
Vanuatu has become a brilliant example of what a Melanesian nation can achieve on the world stage – a leader in the Pacific fight against climate change and an important opponent of modern day colonialism. West Papua sees Vanuatu’s role in the pioneering climate change ICJAO campaign and the Chagos Islands advisory opinion as a model for its future statehood.
As West Papua continues to suffer grievously under Indonesian occupation, my people are constantly given strength and courage from Vanuatu’s support for our struggle. From the Wantok bill to the formation of the ULMWP in Saralana, our brothers and sisters in Vanuatu have stood with West Papua throughout our struggle. Our bond has only been strengthened since the ULMWP’s formation.
Congratulations again to Prime Minister Napat on his election. I and the ULMWP Executive look forward to continue working with you and your government.
